History of the Rochester Hotel Feature: Support Your Local Gunfighter

Released in 1971, ‘Support Your Local Gunfighter’ is a classic comic western sharing a lot of the same cast and crew of ‘Support Your Local Sheriff!’ which came out two years before. It spoofs such westerns as ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ and ‘Yojimbo’. Starring the likes of James Garner, Jack Elam, and Suzanne Pleshette this movie can be a real who’s who of it’s era.

This was, in fact, Jack Elam’s third time filming a movie in Durango, CO. The one previous was this film’s predecessor, ‘Support Your Local Sheriff!’. For ‘Support Your Local Gunfighter’, Jack had to hang off the Durango-Silverton Narrow-Gauge Railroad train. Being terrified of heights, this was an incredibly intense scene for him to complete.

Here at the Rochester Hotel, Room #102 is themed for ”Support Your Local Gunfighter.’ This king room is currently running at a rate of $189 per night, and is located near the iconic front entrance to our 140 year old hotel. Call 970-385-1920 to book your stay!
