“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”

History of the Rochester Hotel feature: “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”

Paul Newman is probably best known for his role as Butch Cassidy. Robert Redford sky-rocketed his movie career through his role as the Sundance Kid.

This movie is fun, funny, thrilling, and historical. The real Butch Cassidy and Sundance pulled off one of their greatest get-aways riding straight through center of Telluride, just two hours car ride north of Durango.

One of the most famous scenes from the film, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” has to be when they jumped from a rocky cliff down 70ft. into a rushing rapid river. “I can’t swim!,” Redford’s Sundance exclaims in fear. “Are you crazy? The fall will probably kill ya,” Newman’s Cassidy responds with a laugh. It’s classic Hollywood adventure comedy, and was shot near Baker’s Bridge just north of Durango.

Here at the Rochester Hotel, Room #203 is themed for ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.’ This king room is currently running at a rate of $189 per night, and is located on the second floor overlooking our Secret Garden.
